In 1960, when he was only fifteen years old, Bob Marley formed a vocal group, whose members also included Peter Tosh, another important figure in the genre. In 1962, Jimmy Cliff (another future big star) introduced Bob Marley to a producer and they recorded his first album, Judge Not . Under the name of The Wailing Wailers they recorded more than twenty successful singles nationwide, between 1963 and 1967.
In 1967 Bob Marley renounced Christianity to embrace the Rastafari religion , a Caribbean religious political movement that owes its name to Ras Tafari, that is, Emperor Haile Selassie I of Ethiopia, and which proclaimed that the inhabitants of the West Indies came from Ethiopia and return to their region of origin.
That same year the band dissolved, and already constituted as the future Wailers , they rolled from here to there, from independent label to independent label and writing songs for others, until in 1972 they signed a good contract with Island records and released Catch A Fire . This would be the group’s first reggae LP as such, a work that received high praise from critics, which was followed by an extensive tour of the UK and America. Burnin’ was released in 1973, including Eric Clapton ‘s later big hit , I Shoot The Sheriff .
The album releases followed one another with increasing success, making Bob Marley one of the most appreciated people in his country. Despite his constant travels, Bob Marley never forgot his concern for the social differences of the island’s population, to the point of being shot in 1976, an attack of clear political origin. In an effort to collaborate in the elimination of the existing violence between the different factions, Bob Marley organized reconciliation concerts with a success that further enlarged his public image, not only as a musician, but as a social leader.
In 1972 he resumed his career as a musician, although it was not until 1977 when he released a new long-playing album: Exodus (which had two successful singles in Great Britain), which was followed by Kaya and his second live album, Babylon By Bus . In 1978, a world tour brought him closer to Africa, an inspiration reference for his next LP: Survival . Constant concert tours kept him active, but in September 1980 he collapsed on stage, and was diagnosed with cancer soon after. He had just released Uprising, and despite undergoing treatment, he died in 1981 and was buried in Jamaica with honors of Head of State. Due to his artistic and public relevance, Bob Marley is considered one of the great music myths of the 20th century.

-Only once in your life, I truly believe, you find someone who can completely turn your world around. You tell them things that you’ve never shared with another soul and they absorb everything you say and actually want to hear more. You share hopes for the future, dreams that will never come true, goals that were never achieved and the many disappointments life has thrown at you. When something wonderful happens, you can’t wait to tell them about it, knowing they will share in your excitement. They are not embarrassed to cry with you when you are hurting or laugh with you when you make a fool of yourself. Never do they hurt your feelings or make you feel like you are not good enough, but rather they build you up and show you the things about yourself that make you special and even beautiful. There is never any pressure, jealousy or competition but only a quiet calmness when they are around. You can be yourself and not worry about what they will think of you because they love you for who you are. The things that seem insignificant to most people such as a note, song or walk become invaluable treasures kept safe in your heart to cherish forever. Memories of your childhood come back and are so clear and vivid it’s like being young again. Colors seem brighter and more brilliant. Laughter seems part of daily life where before it was infrequent or didn’t exist at all. A phone call or two during the day helps to get you through a long day’s work and always brings a smile to your face. In their presence, there’s no need for continuous conversation, but you find you’re quite content in just having them nearby. Things that never interested you before become fascinating because you know they are important to this person who is so special to you. You think of this person on every occasion and in everything you do. Simple things bring them to mind like a pale blue sky, gentle wind or even a storm cloud on the horizon. You open your heart knowing that there’s a chance it may be broken one day and in opening your heart, you experience a love and joy that you never dreamed possible. You find that being vulnerable is the only way to allow your heart to feel true pleasure that’s so real it scares you. You find strength in knowing you have a true friend and possibly a soul mate who will remain loyal to the end. Life seems completely different, exciting and worthwhile. Your only hope and security is in knowing that they are a part of your life.
